Fred Smal (b.1951) began his career as a lawyer. He left full-time work as a singer-songwriter to attend Harvard Divinity School. He was ordained as a Unitarian-Universalist minister in 1996. He left his position at minister at First Parish in Cambridge MA to pursue full-time work for climate justice. As of 2021 he is Minister for Climate Justice at Arlington Street Church, Boston, and Policy Director at Masschusetts Interfaith Power & Light. As a spiritual director he also he leads workshops on spiritual support for climate activism & offers one-on-one spiritual counseling, especially for climate anxiety & ecological grief.
