About the Song

Sandy Denny 1st recorded her song in 1967 (the 1st video above) as an acoustic demo audition tape for the Strawbs, a folk group she was briefly part of before joining Fairport Convention.  The Stawbs recorded a version of the song that year but it was not released until 1973 on their "All On Our Own Work" album.

The song was actually first released by Judy Collins. She had heard Denny's demo tape of the song in 1968 and released it that year as the B-side of her "Both Sides Now" 45 and as the title track of her "Who Knows Where the Time Goes" LP on Elektra Records. So Collins recording was the song's first introduction to a wide audience.

The was first released  released by Fairport Convention on their 2nd album "Unhalfbricking".

This is the last song she sang at the last concert she performed shortly before her death at age 31.
