About the Song

This song was written on the occasion of the assasination of San Francisco mayor George Moscone and supervisor Harvey Milk. Milk was gay and the two were murdered because of the homophobia of Dan White, a former member of the city supervisors who blamed Milk for his problems.

These events were the subject of the 2009 film "Milk".

Holly Near wrote this song for a large gathering of people at the San Francisco City Hall the night of the murders.
