About the Song

Debbie Friedman gives the English translation (slightly modified from the Hebrew) as:

May the One who makes peace in the high places
Make peace over us & over all of humanity
And we will sing "Amen!"

These lines are part of the Kaddish which represents the heart of the Jewish liturgy. The extension from being a prayer for peace to prayer for peace over all the world was said to have begun with the British Liberal Jewish movement in the 1960's. It is incorporated in the liturgy of the American Reform Machzor (prayer book).
