About the Song
This song was written & first recorded by Neil Young as Young's first Top 40 hit in 1970. It is the 3rd track on his "After the Gold Rush" LP.
It has been covered by many artists - the most successful being by the English disco band Saint Etienne in 1990 on their debut album. The singer songwriter rapper Everlast recorded the song for the 1999 Adam Sandler film "Big Daddy". The Gwyneth Herbert recording was on the soundtrack of the 2010 romantic comedy film "Leap Year".
When you were young & on your ownHow did it feel to be alone?
I was always thinking of games that I was playing
Trying to make the best of my time
D G A - (4x)
But only love can break your heart
Try to be sure right from the start
Yes, only love can break your heart
What if your world should fall apart?
I have a friend I've never seen
He hides his head inside a dream
Someone should call him & see if he can come out
Try to lose the down that he's found
I have a friend I've never seen
He hides his head inside a dream
Yes only love can break your heart, etc.
