Baez (b. 1941) is a US folk singer, songwriter, musician & activist. She began singing traditional folksongs but quickly branched out to cover many contemporary composed songs.
She was raised as a Quaker. She became deeply involved in the US Civil Rights Movement and the peace movement against the Vietnam War. She was married to & had a child with the draft resistance leader David Harris. Her late sister Mimi was also a singer and was married to the late singer songwriter Richard Fariña.
