Spirit of the Living God

This one verse song was composed by a North Carolina pastor named Daniel Iverson in 1926. It has been suggested that it was written while he was working on a sermon in his study inspired by the story of Jeremiah's visit to the Potter's House and the message he received from the Lord there in Jeremiah 18:1-6. Other suggested that he wrote it during an evangelical crusade in Orlando Florida. 

Although this song was composed by Iverson, you will find by listening to the attached videos that the song has been extensively adapted through the folk process both in terms of the melody and the lyrics. There does not appear to be any original recording by Iverson.

In fact the song has frequently appeared in hymnals without crediting the author or crediting others.
