About the Song
A comment from Pat Humphries: Hi, I’m glad the song moved you. Pete was very important to me. It took a long time before I could sing this one without tearing up myself. If you dig a little on the internet, you can hear the 1st time I sang it in public at the little funeral home in Beacon, NY where the family held a local memorial for Pete & Toshi. I choked up at the end and barely got out the last of the words. The “grove” in the song is Stern Grove. If you know the place you’ll know I took a little poetic license in that while there may be a redwood by the stage, it’s more likely that the actual tree I was up in, all those many years ago, was actually a Eucalyptus.
(Stern Grove is a park near San Francisco State University)
