About the Song
The 3rd verse of this song by Heidi Miller is based on the life and writings of Chief Joseph of the Nez Perce tribe:
"Joseph left his father’s land never to return
Driven by the white man’s hand & by his brothers spurned
But roots still reach thru ancient loam where singing is long gone
Spirits call the children home to hear the welcome song
Until there comes a time when they will turn around
And gather again on sacred ground."
