About the Song
"Mr. Sandman" was first published in 1954. It was first recorded by Vaughn Monroe & His Orchestra with additional recordings that year by the Chordettes and by the Four Aces.
It was a hit for Emmylou Harris in 1981. She released it first on her "Evangeline" album sung as a trio with Dolly Parton & Linda Ronstadt. When she released it later that year as a hit single she re-recorded it with her own voice singing all three parts - for record label reasons.
