About the Song

The words of the song, "L'chi Lach", recall Genesis 12:1, when God says to Abram, “Go forth to the land I will show you.” Rashi, the medieval commentator, interprets this verse, translating it as, “Go for yourself from your land…to a land I will show you.”

The Hebrew Lech l’cha is translated as “Go for yourself.”

L’chi Lach can also be understood as saying ‘go into yourself’, in otherwords find within yourself the journey you are meant to have.

In this time when there are so many refugees in the world forced to leave their familiar homes to undertake a journey to a strange new home, it is also possible to re-imagine this as God's words to any person undertaking a journey to a new home.
