About the Song
"I wrote this song when my oldest son was flying to China in 2007. He was a college student about to teach English there for the summer. Even though he was a savvy traveler, having flown to New Zealand and back, I still worried.
It took me a few years to put the music and lyrics together. Then another few years to record it. Now he is a grown man with a child and another on the way.
This song is for all parents who find themselves in that tender place of loving your young adult child, wanting to keep them close, and also knowing it's time to let them go into the world and spread their wings.
I recorded this in a rehearsal session at my home in Amherst, MA on my iphone. My talented friend Anand Nayak played guitar. I hope to make a studio recording of it soon." - AP 2023
He’s flying now
Across many a mile
Across many a mile
D - - - / G - D - / G A D -
I’d be lying now
If I didn’t say I worry a while
I worry a while Ooooh
A child never grows old
In a mother’s world
In a mother’s world
So we let them go
They fly away
They fly away
