About the Song

Musical https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_King_and_I

The musical was based on a 1944 novel, Anna & the King of Siam, by Margaret Langdon based on the memoirs of Anna Leonowens, the English governess to the king of Siam's children in the 1860's. Rodgers & Hammerstein didn't feel the novel would be a good basis for a musical but changed their mind after seeing a 1946 film that seemed to have a more useable plot.

The musical opened in 1951 with Gertrude Lawrence starring as Anna. She did not realize that she was dying of liver cancer and she had to leave the part and died in 1951.

1956 film: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_King_and_I_(1956_film) - Marni Nixon dubbed in the songs for the actress Deborah Kerr who played Anna.

Yul Brynner starred as the king in the original musical, the film and also a 1976 revival.
