  • I believe the 2nd video is a live performance in Paris in the 1960s but would appreciate details if someone can track it down.
  • The 3rd video is a live performance by Patti LaBelle, Sarah Dash & Nona Hendryx in 1972
  • The 4th video is a live performance in 2009 featuring Beninese Angélique Kidjo as "Aunt Sarah", Lizz Wright as "Safronia", Nina Simone's daughter Lisa Simone as "Sweet Thing" & jazz singer Dianne Reevesp as "Peaches"
  • The 6th is from Berklee Back Lives Matter (created by students from Berklee College of Music in Boston in 2016)
  • The 7th was created for International Women's Day in 2020

My skin is black, my arms are long
My hair is woolly, my back is strong
Strong enough to take the pain inflicted again and again
What do they call me? My name is AUNT SARAH
My name is Aunt Sarah

Am - - - / Dm - Am - / Dm E Am - /   / Am - - -

My skin is yellow, my hair is long
Between two worldsI do belong
My father was rich & white, he forced my mother late one night
What do they call me? My name is SAFFRONIA
My name is Saffronia

My skin is tan, my hair is fine
My hips invite you, my mouth like wine
Whose little girl am I? Anyone who has money to buy
What do they call me? My name is SWEET THING
My name is Sweet Thing

My skin is brown, my manner is tough
I'll kill the first mother I see, my life has been too rough
I'm awfully bitter these days because my parents were slaves
What do they call me? My name is PEACHES

- lyrics & music by Nina Simone
