About the Song

Zaragoza says that in writing this song she wanted to write a feminist anthem that put Indigenous women & diverse women at the center, because Indigenous women are often left out of the narrative about women's rights. She recorded it on her 2020 album "Woman in Color".

She plays this using an open E sound by playing the F#m moving up playing the 4th fret on A & D strings and the 2nd fret on the G string - and playing G#m by playing the 6th fret on the A & D strings and the 4th fret on the G string. This is not as hard as it sounds! You can see her fingering by watching the livestreamed 2nd video above.

Grandma Nature, Mother moon
Show me what to do
When they are taking our rights away
Policing our bodies
E - F#m7 - / G#m - F#m7 -

(bridge) Easy, easy we go
It's repeating on & on

G#m - F#m7 - / G#m - F#m7 (mute) - -

(chorus) Take me to the water, take me to the snow
Where all the souls of our mother's had to go
Take me to the streetsides, teach me your battle cries
Take me to the front lines of the war
To fight like a girl

E - F#m7 - / G#m - F#m7 - :// E - - -

Send me knowledge
Send me peace
From when you were fighting
For all the rights I have to today
Our homes, our votes, our voices
