E.Y. ("Yip") Harburg (1891-1981) was an American lyricist. He cowrote "Buddy, Can You Spare a Dime" and the songs from "Wizard of Oz". He was a "Lefty", champion of race & gender equality & trade unions, and friend of Pete Seeger's family.
